Copyright and Licensing

BIM PANGURIPAN: Journal on Society, Civilization, & Human Empowerment supports the broad dissemination of knowledge generated through community service, community engagement, community empowerment, science and technology implementation, and community-based development.

The journal is committed to protecting the rights of authors while facilitating open and responsible access to published scholarly work.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain the copyright to their original work published in BIM Panguripan.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

  • They have the legal right to submit the manuscript for publication;

  • The manuscript is original and does not unlawfully reproduce material belonging to another copyright holder;

  • All authors have approved the submission;

  • Any third-party material has been appropriately acknowledged and, where necessary, permission has been obtained;

  • Publication of the manuscript by BIM Panguripan does not violate any existing contractual or copyright obligations.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that their work does not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

2. License to Publish

By accepting a manuscript for publication, authors grant BIM Panguripan a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, archive, and communicate the article as part of the journal's scholarly publishing activities.

This publishing right allows the journal to:

  • Publish the article online and in its journal archives;

  • Make the article publicly accessible;

  • Preserve the article as part of the scholarly record;

  • Distribute the article through indexing, abstracting, repository, and scholarly communication services where applicable;

  • Include the article in journal websites, databases, and other legitimate dissemination platforms;

  • Produce and distribute metadata associated with the article.

The publication right granted to the journal does not transfer ownership of the copyright from the authors to the journal.

3. Creative Commons License

Published articles in BIM Panguripan are distributed under the:

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users may:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format;

  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial purposes;

provided that appropriate attribution is given to the original authors and source.

Users must:

  • Give appropriate credit to the authors;

  • Provide a link to the applicable Creative Commons license;

  • Indicate whether changes were made;

  • Not imply that the authors or BIM Panguripan endorse the adaptation or reuse.

The applicable Creative Commons license should be identified on the published article and its associated publication metadata.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain the right to use and disseminate their published work in accordance with the applicable CC BY 4.0 license.

Subject to applicable institutional, funding, and third-party requirements, authors may:

  • Share the published article with colleagues;

  • Deposit the article in institutional or subject repositories;

  • Include the article in academic portfolios;

  • Use the article in teaching and educational activities;

  • Discuss and disseminate the article through academic presentations;

  • Reuse portions of their own work in subsequent scholarly activities with appropriate attribution;

  • Develop derivative scholarly or educational materials based on the article.

Any reuse should maintain appropriate attribution to the original publication.

5. Attribution Requirements

Any person or organization reusing material published by BIM Panguripan should provide appropriate attribution.

Attribution should normally include:

  • Author name(s);

  • Article title;

  • Journal title;

  • Publication year;

  • DOI or persistent identifier, when available;

  • A link to the original publication;

  • A statement referring to the applicable CC BY 4.0 license;

  • An indication of whether modifications were made.

Users should not present reused material in a manner that falsely suggests that the original authors or BIM Panguripan endorse the reuse.

6. Third-Party Materials

The CC BY 4.0 license applies to material for which BIM Panguripan and the authors hold the necessary rights.

Some materials contained in an article may belong to third parties, including:

Where third-party material is excluded from the article's CC BY license, the article should clearly identify the applicable copyright or licensing restriction.

7. Photographs and Community Documentation

Because BIM Panguripan publishes community service and community empowerment activities, authors must pay particular attention to copyright, privacy, and consent when using photographs or other documentation involving community members.

Authors should ensure that:

  • They have the right to publish the photographs or media;

  • Appropriate consent has been obtained when individuals are identifiable and consent is required;

  • Photographs are accurately described;

  • Community members are not misrepresented;

  • Sensitive or confidential information is not unnecessarily disclosed;

  • Third-party photographs are not used without appropriate permission or licensing.

Copyright ownership of a photograph and permission to identify or depict an individual are separate considerations. Authors should address both where applicable.

8. Local Knowledge and Community Contributions

Articles may contain local knowledge, cultural expressions, traditional practices, community-developed innovations, or other contributions originating from participating communities.

Authors should respect applicable rights, permissions, community protocols, and ethical requirements concerning such materials.

Publication under an open-access license does not authorize authors or readers to misappropriate community knowledge or represent community contributions as their own.

Where appropriate, community contributors should be properly acknowledged, and relevant permissions should be obtained before publication.

9. Data, Software, and Other Materials

Copyright and licensing conditions may differ for datasets, software, instruments, photographs, maps, and other materials associated with an article.

Authors should clearly indicate applicable licenses or usage restrictions where relevant.

When sharing supplementary materials, authors should ensure that they have the necessary rights to distribute those materials.

Where possible, authors are encouraged to use appropriate open licenses for materials they are entitled to share.

10. Preprints and Prior Dissemination

Authors should ensure that any previous public dissemination of substantially similar material complies with the applicable policies of the journal and the relevant copyright holder.

If a manuscript has previously appeared as a preprint or institutional repository document, authors should disclose this where appropriate and ensure that the submission does not violate any existing licensing or contractual requirements.

The final published version should be clearly distinguished from earlier versions where necessary.

11. Government and Institutional Materials

Authors using government, institutional, community, or organizational materials must ensure that the materials may legally be reproduced and published.

The fact that information is publicly accessible does not necessarily mean that every associated image, document, database, or media file is free from copyright restrictions.

Authors remain responsible for obtaining appropriate permission or using materials under compatible licensing terms.

12. Copyright Infringement

BIM Panguripan takes copyright infringement seriously.

If credible evidence indicates that a published article contains unauthorized copyrighted material, the Editorial Team may investigate the matter.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may:

  • Request clarification from the authors;

  • Request appropriate permission documentation;

  • Correct the article;

  • Remove or replace unauthorized material where appropriate;

  • Publish a correction or editorial notice;

  • Temporarily restrict access to the affected material;

  • Retract the article when the infringement is serious and materially affects the publication;

  • Refer the matter to the relevant institution or rights holder.

Actions will depend on the nature and seriousness of the issue.

13. Copyright and Corrections or Retractions

Correction or retraction of an article does not automatically transfer copyright ownership from the authors to the journal.

When an article is corrected or retracted, the journal may retain and update the publication record as necessary to preserve the integrity and transparency of the scholarly record.

Appropriate notices will be associated with the affected publication.

14. Commercial and Non-Commercial Reuse

The CC BY 4.0 license permits reuse, including commercial reuse, provided that the requirements of the license are followed.

Users may therefore reproduce, adapt, translate, distribute, or otherwise reuse published material within the scope of the license.

Such reuse must not:

  • Remove required attribution;

  • Misrepresent the original work;

  • Falsely imply endorsement by the authors or BIM Panguripan;

  • Violate the rights of third parties;

  • Breach applicable laws or other legal requirements.

15. Moral Rights and Other Rights

The CC BY 4.0 license does not necessarily waive rights that cannot legally be waived or transferred under applicable law.

Authors and users should consider applicable moral rights, privacy rights, publicity rights, trademark rights, and other rights that may exist independently of copyright.

The journal's licensing policy does not grant permission to use trademarks, logos, personal identities, or other protected rights beyond what is permitted by applicable law and the relevant rights holder.

16. Open Access and Accessibility

BIM Panguripan supports open access dissemination to facilitate the broad exchange of knowledge among:

  • Academic researchers;

  • Community organizations;

  • Universities and educational institutions;

  • Government institutions;

  • Non-governmental organizations;

  • Industry and professional organizations;

  • Community leaders and participants;

  • Practitioners and development partners;

  • The general public.

Open licensing is intended to facilitate responsible knowledge sharing while preserving appropriate attribution to authors and recognition of the original source.

17. Author Declaration

By submitting a manuscript to BIM Panguripan, authors confirm that:

  1. They have the necessary rights to submit the work;

  2. The manuscript is original or all reused material has been appropriately acknowledged;

  3. Necessary permissions for third-party copyrighted materials have been obtained where required;

  4. The manuscript does not knowingly infringe the intellectual property rights of others;

  5. Identifiable community-related materials have been used in accordance with applicable consent, privacy, and ethical requirements;

  6. The information provided to the journal concerning copyright and licensing is accurate.

18. Licensing Statement

19. Commitment to Responsible Knowledge Sharing

BIM Panguripan believes that open access to community service knowledge can strengthen collaboration, innovation, education, and sustainable community empowerment.

The journal therefore supports a copyright and licensing framework that balances:
